The Birdhouse Thing is a unique event that has become a favorite on the Nashville social scene. A benefit for the W. O. Smith Music School, The Birdhouse Thing showcases 150 artfully designed birdhouses available for purchase through both live and silent auction at the event or online at opryauction.com. Local artists, architects, celebrities, and public figures donate time and talents to decorate houses for the cause. Past participants include visual artists such as Lanie Gannon, Paul Harmon, and Bob McGill; celebrities such as Vince Gill, Keith Urban, and Rascal Flatts; and community leaders such as The Honorable Philip Bredesen and Mayor Bill Purcell. The Birdhouse Thing attracted over 500 people last year. In addition to the auction, attendees feast on an outstanding selection of food and drink provided by a wide variety of Nashville's hottest caterers, specialty food shops and, popular dining destinations.
