    SunTrust Classical Series presents Sibelius' Violin Concerto featuring Nashville Symphony, Mario Venzago, conductor, and Stefan Jackiw, violin.

    Sibelius - Finlandia, Op. 26
    Sibelius - Lemminkäinen’s Return, from Four Legends from the Kalevala, Op. 22
    Sibelius - Concerto for Violin in D minor, Op. 47
    Nielsen - Symphony No. 4, Op. 29 "The Inextinguishable"

    This concert devoted to the music of Scandinavia features three works by Jean Sibelius, whose music captures the essence of the Finnish spirit, most potently in his assertive Finlandia and in his rousing Four Legends from the Kalevala, represented here by the movement Lemminkäinen’s Return. The composer’s Violin Concerto features a memorable entrance for the soloist, along with some of the most powerful and dramatic music of his career. Danish composer Carl Nielsen’s The Inextinguishable is just as full of electricity, a triumphant affirmation of life amid the destruction of World War I.
