    SunTrust Classical Series presents Holst's The Planets featuring Nashville Symphony, Giancarlo Guerrero, conductor, and Nashville Symphony Women's Chorus with George Mabry, chorus director.

    Gustav Holst’s dynamic orchestral showpiece The Planets sketches evocative musical portraits of the bodies in our solar system. Inspired by Greek mythology and astrology, each of the movements conveys a unique mood and personality, from the stormy eruptions of “Mars, the Bringer of War” to the calm beauty of “Venus, the Bringer of Peace” to the delicately atmospheric “Neptune, the Mystic.” Both this last movement and Debussy’s evocative Nocturnes will feature the voices of the Nashville Symphony Women’s Chorus. The concert opens with a brand-new work by Nashville composer Conni Ellisor, noted for her unique synthesis of classical orchestration and American musical idioms.
