    SunTrust Classical Series presents Slatkin Conducts Glass featuring Nashville Symphony, Leonard Slatkin, conductor, and Robert McDuffie, violin.

    Rossini - Overture to La gazza ladra [The Thieving Magpie]
    Philip Glass - Concerto for Violin No. 2 "American Four Seasons"
    Tchaikovsky - Symphony No. 2 in C minor, Op. 17 "Little Russian"

    Leonard Slatkin, the Nashville Symphony’s former music advisor, returns to conduct a new work by Philip Glass. Written especially for soloist Robert McDuffie, the American Four Seasons Concerto draws plentiful inspiration from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons while exploring fresh ideas and directions, all stamped with Glass’ unmistakable sound. Expect passages of extraordinary beauty and a finale full of fireworks for world-class violinist McDuffie. Tchaikovsky’s “Little Russian” Symphony, which closes the program, is a youthful, energetic work that quotes a variety of Ukrainian folk melodies, with contrasting moods of liveliness and melancholy.
