SunTrust Classical Series presents Prokofiev's Fifth featuring Nashville Symphony, Giancarlo Guerrero, conductor, and Colin Currie, percussion.

Joan Tower - Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman
Copland - Fanfare for the Common Man
James MacMillan - Veni, veni, Emmanuel
Prokofiev - Symphony No. 5 in B-flat major, Op. 100

One of the masterworks of 20th century orchestral music, Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 shows the composer at the height of his powers, glorifying the human spirit with music of remarkable expressiveness. The electrifying final movement ends on a note of joyous exuberance. The concert opens on an equally rousing note, with the pairing of Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man and GRAMMY®-winning composer Joan Tower’s response, Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman. Soloist Colin Currie will play an astounding array of percussion instruments on Scottish composer James MacMillan’s Veni, Veni, Emmanuel, which draws its musical materials from 15th century French plainchant.
