Tough-talking streetwalker Sadie Thompson (Joan Crawford) lands on Pago Pago after a cholera epidemic grounds her ship. But puritanical, humorless missionary Alfred Davidson (Walter Huston) frowns on Sadie's provocative flirting with the soldiers stationed on the island, even as he struggles with his lust for her. Directed by the legendary Lewis Milestone, "Rain" has become a cult classic valued for its insightful social commentary.
