Add Review/Comment
Baroque Fiddling Concert featuring guest artist Rachel Jones and the Music City Baroque offers an opportunity for fiddlers to learn about the new baroque style that's sweeping the classical world, and for classical players to find out how close this really is to fiddling.
Rachel Jones combines rich tone and expressive energy with ensemble and stylistic sensitivity. Her passions include historically inspired performance of the varied repertoire from the Baroque and Classical periods, as well as folk music from the many traditions in the New World and the Old. Originally from Nova Scotia, she was captivated by the flourishing early music community in Montréal. During her studies in baroque violin at McGill University she was awarded the Gian Lyman Memorial Award for Early Music.
Bach Suites and Hoedowns are based on the dance, and use surprisingly similar ways of playing the violin (or fiddle!) And both baroque music (Handel, Vivaldi, Purcell and the rest) and country fiddlers improvise a lot – what’s on the page is not all that we play!
An opportunity for fiddlers to learn about the new baroque style that’s sweeping the classical world, and for classical players to find out how close this really is to fiddling; for professionals and students to delve deeply, and for young people and amateurs to experiment and try it out.
