    Ambient jazz-rock artist Holly Cormier of Murfreesboro will celebrate the release of her first album with a live show at Edgehill Studios. Cormier's new CD, Shot of Expression, features nine original songs that touch on the romantic complexities of life. The upbeat, melodious and hook-driven tunes feature the artist's three-octave mezzo-soprano voice and flowing keyboards. Sometimes described as "earthy" and "real", Cormier says she is drawn to the "grit and soul" of artists like Ella Fitzgerald, Jack White and Ray Lamontagne. Her unpredictable, cutting-edge sound is enhanced with percussion, bass and cello.

    Cormier is no stranger to the Nashville music scene. In 2006, she toured Martina McBride's recording studio after winning first place in the "Reality Star Idol" competition. "I was only 13 years old then, and I've been writing songs and honing my performance ever since," said Cormier, who lost her father unexpectedly to pancreatic cancer in 2008. Cormier has gone on to win top national songwriting and/or performance awards in competitions such as the 2009 "Songwriter Universe" and "Atlanta Fest 2007". The Edgehill Studios performance will mark her professional debut. The "Shot of Expression" CD, described as an "emotional labor of love", was recorded and mixed in January and February 2010 at Beach Creek Studios in Brentwood. Produced by Kevin Ward, the project features performances by drummer/percussionist Derrek Phillips, bassist Gary Lunn, and cellist Matt Butler.
