A legend among jazz guitarists, Mundell Lowe's name is not exactly a household word with the general public. Born in Mississippi and working briefly in Nashville, he went to New Orleans where he began his jazz career. From there it was on to New York where he worked with jazz greats Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Helen Humes and Charles Mingus, to name but a few. During the 50's he also began a long career playing and writing for television and films. He returned to performing in the 1980's, and has appeared with artists including Ron Carter, Al Foster, Bill Mays, Ray Drummond, Andre Previn, and Ray Brown.

Mundell still has many close friends and musical associates from his days in Nashville, and has returned here several times to perform and record. For this event, he has chosen to record a live album in the Jazz Cave over a period of two evenings, a very special event indeed.
