LGBT Health Fair

The Nashville LGBT Community will enjoy free health screenings and information on a variety of topics at the annual Vanderbilt School of Medicine LGBT Health Fair held at OutCentral on Saturday, April 17th. Screenings will include rapid HIV tests, STI tests, blood pressure and BMI measurements, eye exams, lipid panels, and glucose testing. Additionally, more than 20 community health care representatives will be on hand for the event which is open to the public free of charge. The health fair will be held from 10:00am to 2:00pm at OutCentral Cultural Center, located at 1709 Church St. in the heart of the gay community. Representatives from organizations such as Nashville CARES, American Cancer Society, Nashville Metro Health, American Medical Student Association, Shade Tree Clinic Diabetes Education Program, Vanderbilt’s Office of LGBTQI Life, Vanderbilt Dayani Center and more will have booths offering information on everything from diabetes and glaucoma to yoga and stress relief techniques. The Vanderbilt Medicine Gay-Straight-Alliance is an active student organization at the medical school with strong support from faculty and students of all sexual orientations. Our mission is to educate the greater Vanderbilt community on health issues that pertain to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) patients, provide a support network for LGBT medical students, and to actively work toward a healthy LGBT community here in Nashville.
