Add Review/Comment
First Tennessee Summer Festival presents Schubert & Rachmaninoff featuring Nashville Symphony, Giancarlo Guerrero, conductor, and Misha Dichter, piano.
Joseph Schwantner - Morning’s Embrace
Schubert - Symphony No. 8 in B minor, D. 759 “Unfinished”
Joseph Schwantner - Chasing Light…
Rachmaninoff - Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 43
Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini contains some of the most lyrical and enduring music of the composer’s career, presented in a set of 24 variations that explore a wide range of moods, tempos and orchestral textures. Pianist Misha Dichter, the featured soloist, has been celebrated the world over for his singular blend of sensitivity and technical mastery. The orchestra will also perform two works by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Joseph Schwantner, whose vibrantly colorful music evokes the brilliance of the rising sun. And in Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony, the Viennese composer created music of unparalleled beauty and poignancy, leaving audiences to ponder the mystery of why he never completed this wonderfully imaginative work.
