The gardens here at The Hermitage are pushing 200 years of continuous gardening. This year we are refocusing our Spring plant sale to reflect this long heritage of raising perennials and vegetables on Andrew Jackson's historic farm here in Middle TN.

Most of our vegetable and flower offerings for sale this spring are all grown from heirloom seed saved since the 19th Century (and in a few cases even older). Most of these plants would have been available to 19th century Americans and could have been grown here at The Hermitage.

Enjoy growing these historic vegetable varieties and don’t forget to let a few “go to seed” for next year.

The following is a small sampling of a few plant varieties that will be available for sale: tomatoes, riesentraube, cherokee purple, beans, speckled cranberry, peppers and runner pole beans.

Flowers from The Hermitage formal garden: balsam impatiens, nigra hollyhock, cosmo and zinnia, benary’s giant.
