The next SNAP ON 2 & 4 at the Nashville Jazz Workshop is Friday June 25 and features Latin Jazz band El Movimiento. There will be two sets beginning at 8:00pm in the Jazz Cave at the Workshop.  Advance purchase is recommended. Tickets will be available beginning Monday, June 21 at 10:00am.

El Movimiento (The Movement) has quickly become a sensation in Nashville's jazz scene, boasting an all-star collection of Music City's finest Latin-jazz performers. The band's powerful and original sound and original repertoire are the result of a unique multi-cultural partnership between a trio of accomplished young musicians - saxophonist and native Nashvillian Rahsaan Barber, Dominican percussionist Giovanni Rodriguez, and Puerto-Rican trumpeter Imer Santiago.

The band has been committed to building on the heritage passed on by traditional Latin-jazz giants (such as Tito Puente and Eddie Palmieri) as well as incorporating the contemporary influences of modern jazz, rock and other popular American styles. The result of these two pursuits is a unique musical expression capable of satisfying die-hard fans of Latin-jazz as well as enchanting a younger generation of listeners who are more familiar with the newer sounds of contemporary jazz, soul music and Latin pop.

El Movimiento's roster features seven musicians who share a global approach to music-making, yielding an exciting, contemporary and jazz-influenced exploration into the music of North and South America, Brazil, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and, of course, Africa, a land whose historic contribution to world music simply cannot be overstated. The band has just released its first CD, The Movement.
