On June 3rd, Music City Unsigned presents “Quelle Chanteuse!” a special evening celebrating women and song, featuring three of Nashville’s most well-loved female artists: Tori Sparks, Kristen Cothron and Treva Blomquist.

Nashville’s quirky-meets-sultry horse of a different color. Called "a knockout" by the Village Voice, Tori Sparks ’ dynamic live show is equal parts soulful singing and zany stand-up-style humor. Her acclaimed third album, The Scorpion in the Story, was co-produced with indie rock veteran David Henry (R.E.M., Ben Folds, Josh Rouse, Widespread Panic, Cowboy Junkies). The album was released on Glass Mountain Records last year. It broke the Top 100 on the Americana Radio Charts, and is currently at # 19 and climbing on the European Americana Chart. The album as well as Tori’s notoriously DIY work ethic has been praised by Paste, Performing Songwriter, The Nashville Scene, CMJ.com, the LA Times tech blog, NPR, and many more.

A ray of musical sunshine. With the release of her second CD, As It Should Be, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Treva Blomquist, backed by her versatile band, The Suits, delivers uplifting music that can't simply be pegged "folk," "Americana," "chick rock," or even "jazz," though it contains elements of all of them. Critics have described it as "deep," "starkly beautiful," and "exceptionally listenable" and raised Patty Griffin, The Weepies, and Mindy Smith as points of comparison. She was a finalist in the 2005 Kerrville (Texas) New Folk Competition, won an mention in the USA Songwriting Competition, and was and the Grand Prize Winner at the RiverBluff Performing Songwriter Competition soon followed, as did her first, acoustic independent CD, Plain Vanilla Me (2006).

Look up chanteuse, and you just might find Kristen Cothron's picture. The Nashville Scene says, “She's the rare young talent who cares more about expressing a mood and a story than simply showing off her voice.” Having studied at the Nashville Jazz Workshop and at Berklee College of Music, Kristin’s songs blur the genre line between pop, rock, and jazz, though her voice is reminiscent of the classic jazz singers from days gone by. In addition to her own recordings, she's lent her voice to several projects including “Crazy Blues- A Celebration of Okeh Recordings,” featuring Regina Spektor, Jon Abercrombie, Chris Barron and more. She is currently in the studio, working on a follow-up to critically-acclaimed Love Letters from a Fool, released in 2006.
