Tiffany Dyer Wasted Thread

The average American throws away 68lbs of textiles every year. Wasted Thread is an art installation bringing awareness for the need of textile recycling through the use of materials that have lived their life and need to be recycled into a new life. The piece is not created by clothing that could be worn again such as hand-me-downs or sold at thrift stores but by textiles that would typically be discarded like single socks, clothing with holes, and worn-out towels.
This piece is a community project allowing for participation in the process of connecting discarded textiles to the installation.Tiffany Dyer was born into a family of artists, like her grandmothers who passed along the craft of quilting. As she began to explore art mediums and ways of expressing herself, she chose not to use the traditional method of quilting but to use her fiber skills in a more contemporary form. She creates work that explores the everyday pains that women face, honors loved ones and bring inspirations to others. In addition to art making, Tiffany teaches art lessons and curates numerous art shows and events.
This exhibition is held in the East Wing Gallery.
