Thomas Petillo, a Nashville local was recently featured in "Just A Way Out," a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Hot Springs, Arkansas. His latest work involves the intertwining of nude figures and unexpected scenarios;? whether it be hanging, suspended in space, in nature, or in an industrialized area, his photographs are fresh and inventive. Petillo is excited about pushing himself to play with a subject that he once feared. He works and lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
Christopher Rodrigues was born in Derby, England, and currently lives and works in Vancouver. His work has been displayed in New Jersey, Los Angeles, New York, Washington D.C., and various parts of Canada. Rodrigues leaves the camera absent, using only the computer and Photoshop, as well as borrowing pixels of color from images found on the Internet. He says that his ""photographs" honor nature while celebrating technology."
Caleb Charland is a recent MFA graduate from the Photography School of Art Institute of Chicago. His work involves the simultaneity of the familiar with the strange, captured in a single moment. He is also interested in wonder, saying that it is "a state of mind somehwere between knowledge and uncertainty." The tensions between the familiar and the strange, wonderment and the unknown, play nicely with his photographs. Charland has exhibited nationally and internationally in Switzerland, Iceland, Canada, Australia, Israel, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Texas.
Matt Mikulla's artwork and photography has been exhibited throughout the United States, and is frequently shown in Nashville, Tennessee. He focuses on photography and image-making using both traditional and contemporary techniques. Mikulla is also a founding member of The First Saturday Gallery Crawl.
Sculptor Chris Ellis will be featured in a separate part of the gallery during the Snap Exhibit. Chris Ellis has been working with metal for the past eight years. His sculptures consist of welded metal layered into geometric patterns;? and he experiments with the unpredictable nature of patinas, as well as acrylic, oil, tempera wood stain and spray paint. Ellis is a Southern artist who was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama.
