3rd Annual Civil War Encampment: Hardtack & Howitzers

Local history will come to life on Saturday, July 24th during the 3rd Annual Civil War Encampent at Travellers Rest Plantation. This event will offer visitors a variety of activities related to the Civil War and the Battle of Nashville. Infantry, artillery, civillian and medical re-enactors will share their knowledge of this important period of American history. Learn about 1860's batttlefield medicine, witness a howitzer demonstration, interact with battle weary soldiers, attend a school lesson in Miss Annie's one-room schoolhouse and tour the home that served as headquarters for the Confederate army under the leadership of General John Bell Hood. Period artisans will be selling their wares and the sounds of an old-fashioned string band will fill the summer air with the music of yesteryear. In addition, hands-on activities will abound (for all ages) with a secret garden scavenger hunt, soldier drills, old-fashioned toys & games, clothes warshin', face painting and our hilarious Soggy Noggin' Run, plus much, much more.
