A CELEBRATION OF ROBERT SCHUMANN –  in the 200th year since the composer’s birth. Schumann, one of the greatest songwriters who ever lived, wrote over 150 songs that were immensely popular in his own life time. He and his wife, Clara, lived one of the greatest musical love stories of all time, as well. Clara, a composer herself and a supreme pianist, arguably one of the greatest, was the composer’s Muse. His songs were dedicated to her; his piano compositions were written for her to play. Blair presents two days of consecutive performances dedicated to the both the artistry and poignant human story of Robert and Clara Schumann. This series is sponsored by an anonymous friend of the Blair School of Music.

THE YEAR OF SONG: ROBERT’S GIFT TO CLARA Join us for an afternoon celebrating the music and letters of Robert and Clara Schumann, featuring narrator Jim Lovensheimer, soprano Amy Jarman, lyric baritone Jonathan Retzlaff, mezzo soprano Gayle Shay, and pianist Melissa Rose.
