Add Review/Comment
The Blair String Quartet is Christian Teal, violin; Cornelia Heard, violin; John Kochanowski, viola; and Felix Wang, cello. The Blair String Quartet presents works by three of the greatest composers of string quartets. Joseph Haydn composed the Quartet in G Major, Op. 54, No.1 in 1788 and it is the first of two sets of works dedicated to Johann Tost. Bela Bartok composed his Fourth String Quartet in 1928. It is a stunning example of Bartok’s synthesis of the elements of Hungarian folk music and art music of the highest rank. This five movement work is constructed in an arch form with rhapsodic music evocative of the sounds of nature. The program closes with Franz Schubert’s powerful Quartet in D Minor composed in 1824 and subtitled “Death and the Maiden”. Sponsored by Delphine and Ken Roberts in memory of Nelson C. Andrews.
