March 20, 2011
Add Review/Comment
Coates: London Suite
Haydn: Symphony No.104 in D
Elgar: Cello Concerto
Perhaps the signature cello composition of the 20th century, the Elgar Violoncello Concerto of 1919 is as haunting today as it was at the end of World War I, when the aging and war-weary Edward Elgar composed it. Long-time Eastman School faculty member Steve Doane will interpret the piece for Bryan Symphony audiences at a concert beginning at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 20, in Wattenbarger Auditorium. Performances by Doane, who won France’s Diapason D’or for his recording of the complete music of Gabriel Faure for cello and piano, has been broadcast on BBC and throughout Europe, the U.S. and Canada.
