The Loveless Cafe announced plans today to host Rock Away the Blues family festival and concert at the Loveless Barn on Thursday, July 29. The FREE event will feature Starship with Mickey Thomas, Jimmy Hall and more. The goal of this event is to aid victims of May’s devastating floods in Nashville, specifically children, who lost everything in the disaster. Rock Away the Blues will do just that, providing families with a fun and FREE night of entertainment, new toys and school supplies to replace those lost in the flood.

The event plans to be an annual one and is sponsored by Leap Frog and Freshii, a new healthy fast food restaurant coming to Nashville in August. Children under 12 will receive a new toy from Leap Frog and a backpack filled with school supplies as well as free food and yogurt from Freshii. In addition to the toy drive and concert, entertainment for the night will also feature American Gladiator Justice Smith, FREE family photos (to replace ones lost in the flood) and a silent auction.

“Nashville is such an amazing city so when I saw it drowning last spring I wanted to do something to help,” says rock legend Mickey Thomas. “When I heard about Rock Away the Blues I knew we had to be part of it. Nashville has experienced a tremendous outpouring of support over the last couple months but this event and what it is doing for Nashville’s kids is something really special.”

Seven out of ten children in Nashville can’t afford school supplies, this event faces this challenge by offering toys and supplies with no screening process for those children in need. NOTE: Attendees who were not affected by the flood are asked to bring a new packaged toy or school supplies.
