The Rymer Gallery is pleased to present Sound Spectrum, a new series by Nashville artist and Rymer curator Herb Williams. Williams’ whimsical sculptures study the relationship between art, music, and social networking.
"I am interested in exploring the connections between social networking and one of the most important audio breakthroughs of my generation – the mix tape. Posting content that is unoriginal - but when customized with other varying content becomes unique is similar to the parallel between creating a mix tape and a Facebook page. In our “information age”, the immediacy of sharing content and music has blurred the lines between imitation and creation. These artworks are a vehicle of equality that speak to the ever-changing state of what holds and inspires the public’s attention - linking each viewer to a common experience and exploring the ever-present question of where we’ve been and where we are going.
