The Tennessee Art League was organized in 1954 as a nonprofit organization in the State of Tennessee. The primary mission of the TAL is to assist local visual artists by providing gallery space, workshops, and educational programs. In addition, the League endeavors to enrich the community by providing professional artist materials to schools, teaching art in community centers, senior centers and homeless shelters.
TAL hosts five art galleries; admission to each is always free and open to the public. October listings for each is as follows. Each show will hang from Saturday, October 2 - Saturday, Oct. 30.
Premiere Gallery – An exhibit of paintings by Refaat Zakhary. Mr. Zakhary studied in Egypt and spent many years as a partner in a New York architectural firm before relocating to Nashville. His works debuted September 4. (Artist's website: www.thezakharystudio.com)
Ethel Smith Gallery & Members Gallery – An exhibit of small works by Tennessee Art League members, in both the Ethel Smith Gallery and the Members Gallery at TAL. Many mediums will be featured - oil, pastel, watercolor, acrylics, and pen and ink. Up to two pieces per member will be presented. An opening reception for the Members Small Works show will be held Saturday, October 2, from 6 - 9 P.M.
Poston3 Gallery – An exhibit of multi-media works by TAL Painting Groups. The show will comprise works from the Monday TAL painting group, which has hosted an active roster since 1985; and the Tuesday TAL painting group "Art Seen," known for its quality work and participation in charitable activities. Art Seen's website is artseen.weebly.com. Both groups have the intention of painting regularly and sharing encouragement and constructive criticism of their art pursuits, and of cultivating social camaraderie of fellow artists. The opening reception for this group show will be Saturday, October 2, from 6 - 9 P.M.
Second Floor Gallery – Studio A Group's featured artists for October include Asia Emerson, Jamie Sanderlin Parks, Judy Klich, and Mary Miller-McNutt. A diverse selection of subject matter and of artistic mediums will be presented. An opening reception will be held October 2 from 6-9 P.M.
