An entertaining venture into the earliest days of Hollywood and how it began the dream factory on which America and the world continues to depend. Claims are constantly made about the Americanization of the world by the Internet, but that globalization really began with film itself, particularly the silent film, which brought sagas of the Old West and brittle, sophisticated urban comedies to people who had never seen a light bulb, let alone an airplane.
