Paul Kramer and Swing Street play the French Quarter Café Wednesday September 29th!
Music lovers take note: Paul Kramer and Swing Street have emerged as a musical force to be reckoned with, merging the classic style and sound of the Golden Age of Swing with a fresh songwriting sensibility and virtuoso instrumental chops. Paul is a journeyman of the Nashville music scene, boasting an enviable track record both as a writer (three cuts on Suzy Bogguss’ 2003 CD Swing) and sideman, logging thousands of tour bus miles for artists like Gary Allan, Travis Tritt, Pam Tillis, Suzy Bogguss, Deana Carter, Lionel Cartwright and many more. With the Swing Street project, Paul has stepped forward as a compelling artist in his own right , fusing a broad lyric palette, an expressive and engaging singing voice, and a fiery command of three different instruments: fiddle, mandolin, and guitar. Paul’s recent performance at the Bluebird Café yielded some amazing YouTube moments; have a look and listen to these performances to get an idea of the breadth and depth of this artistry. Or visit www.paulkramermusic.com and check out the CD. One must: Monkeys With Car Keys, a riotous Bob Wills-ish romp through the history of everything under the sun and more!
For the French Quarter Café gig, Paul will be joined by a virtual who’s who of the local jazz scene: Rory Hoffman can only be described as a force of nature on anything he decides to pick up. This includes accordion, tenor sax and clarinet but of particular note is his has-to-be-seen–to-be-believed in-his-lap and upside down guitar style, evoking Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian with a little Bucky Pizzarelli mixed in. Jerry Krahn will be on hand as well; He’s one of the most respected archtop rhythm guitar and banjo players on the contemporary scene. Rounding out the ensemble are Ray Von Rotz on drums and Charlie Chadwick on upright bass; both provide the kind of tasteful and grooving support that is every soloist’s dream. With both individual virtuosity and ensemble precision, Paul Kramer and Swing Street are making strikingly beautiful and powerful music.
Paul Kramer and Swing Street take the stage at 8 pm at the French Quarter Café
(823 Woodland Street, Nashville TN 37206 ph: (615) 227-3100) on September 29.
There will be a $7 cover charge.
