Mel Zeigler’s works highlight systems or forms that are in plain sight, but never really seen. His installations have resulted in the repainting of houses in a newly-invented but “historic” camouflage, instant landscapes delivered on flatbed trucks, the naming of the markers of architectural details at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, or installing straw in store display-cases through out Vienna. For Cheekwood, Ziegler will create a new project that responds to our grounds and landscape and the historical nature of estates of respite. Ziegler’s esteemed career spans over three decades, where he has been continually attentive to the meaning of place, land, history, labor and production. His current projects include a public art master plan for Lake Como Park in Fort Worth, Texas and a major public art commission for the Art In Public Places Program, Cambridge, MA. Ziegler is Professor of Art and Chair of the Department of Art at Vanderbilt University and his work is shown nationally and internationally.

This exhibition is organized by Claire Schneider, Independent Curator.
