The harrowing stories of six former death row inmates who were wrongfully convicted of capital crimes are told in their own voices in THE EXONERATED. The play, written in 2000 by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen, will be performed by members of The Nashville Shakespeare Festival and the Destiny Theatre Experience and directed by Ted Swindley.

Featured cast members from The Nashville Shakespeare Festival are Ross Bolen in the role of Kerry; Michael Roark in the role of Gary; Nettie Mae Kraft in the role of Sunny. Featured cast members from the Destiny Theatre Experience are Tobyus Green in the role of Robert; Jason McGowan II in the role of David; and Kenneth W. Dozier in the role of Delbert. Also appearing are Jimmie Hill, Sheerene Whitfield, Joy Tilley Perryman, Robert Marigza and Shane Bridges.

Mark Evans of the Associated Press called the play, "Riveting, simple, honest storytelling that demands reflection." It originally opened Off Broadway in 2002.

Six performances of the staged reading will take place at Christ Church Cathedral's Cheek Hall. The Cathedral is located at 900 Broadway in Downtown Nashville.

Due to the mature subject matter, THE EXONERATED is not recommended for children. This is a Sacred Space for the City Arts Series event sponsored by Friends of the Cathedral.
