Mister Hazelwood and the New Transcendentalists CD Release Show

Mister Hazelwood and the New Transcendentalists comprise Joseph Hazelwood and a revolving cast of guest musicians, mostly from Nashville’s progressive east side. The pseudonym is a nod to Transcendentalism—an artistic, philosophical and spiritual movement in the mid-nineteenth century with Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau as its figureheads. Mister Hazelwood’s sound—a perfect blend of such influences as Mississippi bluesmen John Hurt and Robert Johnson; folk artists such as Bob Dylan and Nick Drake; as well as psychedelic rock acts of the 60s such as Jimi Hendrix and the Moody Blues—is an enchanting, other-worldly spin on modern folk-pop.
Come to the Frist Center’s Grand Lobby on Thursday, Nov. 11, for the launch of Mister Hazelwood’s first solo album, The Epoch of the Golden Age, produced by Joe McMahan and recorded at the House of David on Music Row. McMahan and Hazelwood worked to “catch lightning in a bottle” by recording the magic of each studio moment and by using as few modern “tricks” as possible to polish the final product. The album was completed in only three sessions with as many as eight musicians simultaneously performing live at any given time. The result is a more organic sound true to the ghost of musicians past.

I can't wait for Mister Hazelwood's new record. So I sure wish I could be there. Unfortunately the Frist Center for the Visual Arts is an 9 hr drive. Damn!
