December 6, 2010
Add Review/Comment
The Fisk Jubilee Singers are vocal artists and students at Fisk University in Nashville who sing and travel worldwide. The original Jubilee Singers introduced ‘slave songs’ to the world in 1871 and were instrumental in preserving this unique American musical tradition known today as Negro spirituals. Long recognized as one of America’s foremost a cappella ensembles, The Fisk Jubilee Singers were awarded the National Medal of Arts from the President of the United States in November of 2008. The Medal is acknowledged as the nation’s most prestigious citation for artists and arts patrons.
