The Tennessee Art League was organized in 1954 as a nonprofit organization in the State of Tennessee. The primary mission of the TAL is to assist local visual artists by providing gallery space, workshops, and educational programs. In addition, the League endeavors to enrich the community by providing professional artist materials to schools, teaching art in community centers, senior centers and homeless shelters.
TAL hosts five art galleries; admission to each is always free and open to the public. November listings are as follows. An opening reception will be held November 6 from 6:00pm-9:00pm.
Premiere Gallery – Paintings by Ev Niewoehner will debut Saturday, November 6, 2010, and will hang through December. Mr. Niewoehner is a former gallery owner and teacher who specializes in music-related iconography as a harmonizing theme. Niewoehner has exhibited in a number of galleries and art centers in Los Angeles; New Orleans; Nashville; Memphis; Birmingham; Atlanta; Rome, GA; Estes Park, CO; Fairhope, AL; and Dickson, TN, where he maintains his studio and home.
Ethel Smith Gallery - An exhibit of multimedia framed works by TAL member Kristina Lyle will be featured November 6, 2010, through Nov. 27th. Ms. Lyle is a local artist from Middle Tennessee who studied at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville. Her artwork utilizes cut paper in a variety of styles influenced by her travels abroad and by her grandmother's use of color in handmade quilts.
Members Gallery – Works by Tennessee Art League members will debut Saturday, November 6, 2010. Many mediums will be featured - oil, pastel, watercolor, acrylics, and pen and ink.
Poston3 Gallery – A show featuring the Middle Tennessee Mental Health & Substance Abuse Coalition will open November 6. There will be about 30 original artworks on exhibit created by artists in mental health recovery. Many of the artworks were done in art classes at sites in Middle Tennessee where consumers of mental health services attend peer support centers during the day. The art classes are supported with grants from the Tennessee Arts Commission, Metro Nashville Arts Commission, The Memorial Foundation and AmeriChoice behavioral health organization.
Second Floor Gallery – Studio A Group's featured artists for November include Bob Jones, Jean Gauld-Jaeger, Mark Ivie, Mar Augelli, and Vinci Kolodieski. A diverse selection of subject matter and of artistic mediums will be presented. Studio A artists' work will hang from Saturday, November 6 through November 30.
