58th Nashville Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting: Home for the Holidays

Nashville's annual Christmas parade, "Home for the Holidays" will be held on December 3. The 2010 parade marks the 58th annual parade for Music City. Country radio legend Gerry House will serve as the Grand Marshal for the annual parade. House has been on the air for more than 30 years. House announced earlier this year, he will be retiring from Nashville's WSIX on December 15.

The parade, hosted by Piedmont Natural Gas will begin at 7:00pm after Mayor Karl Dean, Piedmont Natural Gas CEO, Thomas Skains and grand marshal, House, light the Christmas tree in the Public Square Plaza. The annual parade is expected to draw an estimated crowd of 75,000 from across the Mid-State and will feature nearly 60 floats, balloons and participants.

"The Christmas Parade is a tradition that so many in Nashville hold close to their hearts," said Eddie Davidson, Piedmont's senior manager of Legislative and Community Affairs for Tennessee. "With what Nashville has been through this year with the flood, we want to use the parade as a way to welcome people home. Nashville is standing strong now thanks to neighbors helping neighbors. So let's continue the spirit of family, generosity and community by joining each other downtown to celebrate Christmas, while also celebrating this great city," Davidson added.

Piedmont Natural Gas has sponsored the Nashville parade since beginning in 1952. Like last year, proceeds from this year's parade will benefit the Piedmont Natural Gas Share the Warmth program, which helps low-income families who need help with paying their bill.
