    Contemporary Christian and country music artist Susan Ashton, selected cast of the 2010 Black Nativity produced by the Amun Ra Theatre, singer/songwriter Dave Barnes and The Merry Marketplace will highlight Lipscomb University’s Lighting of the Green, the annual outdoor concert and festival that traditionally kicks off the holiday season in Nashville.

    This year’s event will be held Nov. 30, featuring thousands of Christmas lights, a 35-foot-tall Christmas tree, free holiday cookies and hot chocolate, free photos with Santa Claus and holiday gifts available at the new Merry Marketplace. Food will be available for purchase from Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Blue Coast Burrito and Pizza Hut.

    Student choruses from David Lipscomb Campus School and Lipscomb University will join Grant and other guest performers for a free outdoor holiday concert beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Allen Arena Mall on the Lipscomb campus.

    Lighting of the Green will serve as a collection event for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items or financial contributions.

    Lighting of the Green activities include:
    •The Merry Marketplace, featuring vendors of holiday gifts and more inside Allen Arena, 1:00pm-8:00pm;
    •Free photos with Santa Claus in the Bennett Campus Center, 3:30pm-7:00pm;
    •Williamsburg Village, offering free hot chocolate and cookies in the Allen Arena mall, beginning at 4:30pm; and
