The Tennessee Art League was organized in 1954 as a nonprofit organization in the State of Tennessee. The primary mission of the TAL is to assist local visual artists by providing gallery space, workshops, and educational programs. In addition, the League endeavors to enrich the community by providing professional artist materials to schools, teaching art in community centers, senior centers and homeless shelters.

TAL hosts five art galleries; admission to each is always free and open to the public. November listings are as follows.

Premiere Gallery – Paintings by Ev Niewoehner will debut Saturday, November 6, 2010, and will hang through December. Mr. Niewoehner is a former gallery owner and teacher who specializes in music-related iconography as a harmonizing theme. Niewoehner has exhibited in a number of galleries and art centers in Los Angeles; New Orleans; Nashville; Memphis; Birmingham; Atlanta; Rome, GA; Estes Park, CO; Fairhope, AL; and Dickson, TN, where he maintains his studio and home.

Ethel Smith Gallery - Vinci Kolodziejski uses water-media to explore botanical, still life, and landscape images. Her style is characterized by light-filled color and sensitive observation. Her use of watercolor permits the fluid, sparkling, transparent effect vital to her work and allows the viewer to enjoy a sensitive observation that might be overlooked. She often uses rhythmical, botanical images and textures to create a quiet, glowing still life that evokes a nostalgic reaction.

Members Gallery – Works by Tennessee Art League members will debut Saturday, December 4, 2010. Many mediums will be featured - oil, pastel, watercolor, acrylics, and pen and ink. An opening reception will be held Saturday, December 4, from 6 - 9 P.M.; the presentation will run through Thursday, Dec. 30.
