You get a glimpse of them, gliding silently among the temple columns, but once you encounter them, they weave ancient tales of jealousy and revenge, heroic feats, challenges met and overcome. They reveal stories behind the birth of innovative ideas for the arts, for culture and the exchange of ideas, and for government. They are the Heroes of the Parthenon and include Pericles and Aspasia, Phideas (sculptor of the ancient statue of Athena), a legendary figure from the 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition, and others.

The Parthenon is pleased to announce a one-day opportunity for museum guests to encounter costumed historical characters who will transport visitors to various events across the long history of this unique building. Performances continue throughout the day and are free with admission.

Costumes provided by Performance Studios, 523 W. Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN.
