Matt White is a recent addition to the Nashville commercial and creative music scenes and is active as a performer, educator, composer and producer. Matt was a staple of the Miami musical landscape from 2004-2009 – performing on various recordings, backing prominent pop artists and completing his Master’s and Doctorate degrees from the prestigious University of Miami Frost School of Music. He currently teaches Jazz and Commercial music at Belmont University in Nashville.

As a trumpeter Matt has been the featured soloist with the Nashville Jazz Orchestra, Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, The Ed Calle Big Band, the South Florida Jazz Orchestra, the Gene Krupa Big Band, and artists as diverse as Maria Schneider, Ira Sullivan, Kevin Mahogany, Arturo Sandoval, Dave Leibman, Rihanna, Paul Anka, Bruce Hornsby, and many others. He also leads his own ensemble, the Super Villain Jazz Band. Matt has won Downbeat Student Music Awards in the “Best Jazz Soloist”, “Best Arrangement”, and “Best Original Song” Categories. In 2009 he was invited as a U.S. jazz trumpet representative for the IASJ conference in Lucern, Switzerland and was a member of Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead residency in 2004. He has received recognition on NPR’s “All Things Considered”, The Washington Post, and various musical publications for his performance and compositional style.

There will be two sets beginning at 7:00 pm in the Jazz Cave at the Workshop.
