The next Snap On 2 & 4 at the Nashville Jazz Workshop will feature local jazz masters, Don Aliquo and Lori Mechem. This will be the final "Snap" performance of the year.
Don Aliquo hails from Pittsburgh, where he and his father, fellow tenor sax master Don Aliquo Sr., were well on their way to establishing a musical dynasty. Fortunately for us, he came to Tennessee where he heads MTSU's Jazz Studies program, and has a busy schedule teaching, performing, and recording. In high demand as a session player, his discography includes a CD as a leader, "Jazz Folk," and another CD with Rufus Reid and Jim McNeely that is nearing release. At home in virtually all jazz styles, Don's technical brilliance is matched only by his taste and melodic sense.
Lori Mechem is one of the founders, and Executive Director, of the Nashville Jazz Workshop. Besides mentoring hundreds of students and running one of the most unique and successful jazz programs in the country, she is also a gifted player and composer. With six CD's to her credit as a leader, her influences range from Count Basie to Gene Harris to Antonio Carlos Jobim.
What you get from pairing two such talents is an evening of jazz that promises to be exciting, unpredictable, and most of all swinging. Joining Lori and Don will be fellow Jazz Workshop director Roger Spencer on bass, and the phenomenal Marcus Finnie on drums.
There will be two sets beginning at 8:00 pm in the Jazz Cave at the Workshop.
