"It's a story about family – about a father desperately trying to keep his family out of the Civil War. It is 1863 and the Civil War is raging. In the Shenandoah Valley, in northwest Virginia where his farmhouse sits in the middle of the ebb and flow of the fighting, wealthy landowner Charlie Anderson, a widower, father of six sons and a daughter is determined to keep his family out of the action. A man of peace despite his autocratic behavior, he steadfastly refuses to take sides in the Civil War, but bit by bit, Anderson’s isolationism- and his way of living- are torn apart. The score of Shenandoah includes down-home audience favorites Next to Lovin (I Like Fightin'), Freedom, Violets and Silverbells and The Only Home I Know.
