This recital by Jean Miller, soprano, and Marcus Miller, baritone, is titled Sacred Echoes and will survey a sampling of sacred solo/duet vocal genres in western music. The program will include excerpts from a Bach cantata, an oratorio by Handel, Brahms lieder, songs by John Jacob Niles set to poetry by Thomas Merton, an aria from the Verdi opera Nabucco based on the Bible story of Nebuchadnezzar, and a medley from the theatre production of Godspell. Collaborating with the mother/son duo will be Melinda Parrish on piano, Alan Suska on trumpet, Dewayne Pigg on oboe, and Andrew Witherington on bassoon.

Jean Miller began teaching voice part-time at Lipscomb University in 1979, and she later taught voice at Illinois State University while completing her master’s degree. In 1995, she founded The Nashville Notes, a concert band for home educated students in the mid-state region, which she directed for 13 years. Miller has appeared several times in the Faculty and Friends Concert Series at Lipscomb. Other performances and awards include the role of Amahl in Amahl and the Night Visitors and a second-place finish in the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition in 1980.
