The Nashville Jazz Workshop announces a special event this February in honor of Black History Month.  The Jazz on the Move series is going into its fourth year, and is a collaborative venture with the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. The monthly series runs from February to May, and consists of a performance and lecture spotlighting a major figure in jazz history. The first of these takes place Sunday, February 6, 3:00pm in the Frist Center Auditorium. Vocalist Sandra Dudley will discuss the life and work of one of America's greatest jazz singers, Sarah Vaughan. With a jazz trio (Lori Mechem, Roger Spencer, and Marcus Finnie) she will perform some of Sarah Vaughan's most famous works and will demonstrate her distinctive vocal style. Ms. Dudley is Assistant Professor at Belmont University, where she teaches jazz vocal styles. Her presentation at last year's Jazz on the Move segment on Ella Fitzgerald was a tour de force, closing with Ms. Fitzgerald's classic scat solo on "Fly Me To The Moon." Ms. Dudley has also made an extensive study of Sarah Vaughan.
