The Jazz on the Move series is going into its fourth year, and is a collaborative venture with the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. The monthly series runs from February to May, and consists of a performance and lecture spotlighting a major figure in jazz history. March's presentation is a departure from the usual format of the series, which is to focus on a historical figure, period, or style. Instead we will present a modern musical master, saxophonist Jeff Coffin, in a rare discussion and demonstration of how he approaches composition. Besides being a local jazz icon, Jeff is known nationally and internationally for his work with Béla Fleck and the Dave Matthews Band. A gifted teacher as well as player, Jeff's insights will give the audience an understanding of how music is composed.
