Celebrate Black History Month at The Hermitage.  February is an exciting month at The Hermitage as we unveil our new month-long series of events dedicated to Black History Month. Every Thursday evening throughout February, we will be offering a special performance or lecture that will highlight African-American culture, specifically through music, dance and culinary traditions.

"A Celebration of Culture: Food"  will be held in the Andrew Jackson Visitors Center. Culinary historian Michael Twitty willpresent a program on African American foodways featuring the ingredients of Middle Tennessee.  Twitty uses research and experimentation to learn and teach about historic crops, open-hearth cooking, and the wild resources and heritage breed livestock his ancestors gathered and prepared as they set about creating new African American cultures through food. He will be available after the presentation to sign copies of his book. More information on Twitty and his recent work can be found by visiting his website: www.afrofoodways.com.
