Country Music Hall of Fame member Sam Phillips revolutionized music as owner and producer of Sun Records in Memphis. He discovered some of the greatest talents in popular music, including Johnny Cash, Howlin' Wolf, B.B. King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Elvis Presley, Charlie Rich, and others. This documentary features performance footage and interviews with many of these legends, as well as with Nashville's own Jack Clement and John Prine. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Peter Guralnick, who wrote and co-produced the film, and now is writing a biography of Phillips. Guralnick has written many definitive books about American music, including the two-part biography of Presley, Last Train to Memphis and Careless Love. The Massachusetts-based author is writer in residence at Vanderbilt University. After the program, Guralnick will sign books in the Museum Store.
