Tokens will return to the Collins Alumni Auditorium to start its new season on February 24, 2011 at 7:30pm. Bluegrass and country legend, Ricky Skaggs joins world-renown artist Makoto Fujimura, Jenny Littleton of Doyle and Debbie fame, and Tokens regular Buddy Greene.
Tokens all-star band The Most Outstanding Horeb Mountain Boys also returns, with Jeff Taylor, Aubrey Haynie, Byron House, Pete Huttlinger and guest Bob Mater. This first episode of 2011 is entitled “Psalms, Songs, and the Fabric of Life.”
Mandolin maestro and fourteen-time Grammy winner Ricky Skaggs recently released Mosaic, celebrating fifty years of music-making.
Makoto Fujimura, world-renowned artist and former Presidential appointee to the National Council on the Arts, will occupy the TOKENS interview chair. Also an author, Fujimura’s most recent book, Refractions: A Journey of Faith, Art and Culture, presents different meditations on art, culture, and humanity.
Doyle and Debbie's Jenny Littleton will join the Tokens Radio Players for the Feb 24 episode. Doyle and Debbie have developed an almost cult-like following in Nashville since 2006. Littleton has received the Nashville Tennessean’s “Tennie” award for Best Actress and the Nashville Scene’s Best of Nashville award for Best Actor/Actress.
Tokens has been described as “something like Garrison Keillor meets Bill Moyers; or Thomas Merton—the monk, activist, and writer—goes to the Grand Ole’ Opry. One reviewer of the Ryman show summarized, “Take the idea of radio show storytelling and fuse in great music by artists you know & wish you've known years prior, then mix in the intellectual thoughts of various spiritual thinkers…and you've got Tokens.”
