The TSU Guitar Summit, the annual axe-seminar held on the campus of Tennessee State University, returns for its third year June 3-5, 2011. Presented by the TSU Department of Music under the direction of Professor Dave Isaacs, the Summit is an innovative twist on the traditional concert of a “guitar camp.” This year's instructor/artist lineup includes such six-string luminaries as Pat Flynn (New Grass Revival, The Nashville Sessions, and countless more), Walter Egan (Top Ten hit songwriter/artist: “Hearts On Fire,” “Magnet & Steel”), Gary Talley (The Box Tops, veteran sideman and session player) and Nashville rock icon Tommy Womack (Government Cheese, Daddy, Todd Snider). Complete line-up and class schedule are available at TSUGuitarSummit.com.

“It's incredible to me that Nashville doesn't have a preeminent formal guitar program,” says Isaacs. “The amount of guitar talent in this town is unmatched anywhere else. People come here from all over to learn from the best about every facet of the music industry. There's a real need in my opinion for this Guitar Town to have a major event designed for specifically for guitarists.”

In keeping with the collaborative ethos of Music City, the Summit is designed to maximize interaction between instructors and students and also among the instructors themselves. Multiple artist/teachers will offer simultaneous classes on a wide variety of topics and styles, sometimes team-teaching and sometimes simply leading informal discussions that the students can join. “We want Summit attendees to leave with a head full of new ideas and a shot of inspiration, not just a stack of diagrams and patterns,” says Isaacs. “This collaborative dynamic takes place every day in our writers’ rooms and recording studios, and has made Nashville into the unique musical environment that continues to draw talent from across the world. The purpose of the Guitar Summit is to bring this dynamic to the workshop environment, and to bring the wealth of guitar talent that makes Nashville so special into one place for a single intensive weekend.”

The registration fee, which includes all classes plus admission to the Friday and Saturday night concerts, is only $100 for current and former TSU students and $125 for non-students.
