The Country Music Association (CMA) has been selected as the 2011 recipient of the Leadership Music Dale Franklin Award. The highly esteemed association will be honored at a gala tribute banquet on at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Nashville.

The Leadership Music Dale Franklin Award, named for the first executive director of Leadership Music, was created in 2004 to recognize a music industry leader who exemplifies the highest quality of leadership and leading by example. The Country Music Association joins previous Leadership Music Dale Franklin Award honorees Tony Brown (2004), Gerry House (2005), Emmylou Harris (2006), Frances W. Preston (2007), The Bradley Family: Owen, Harold, Jerry, Connie and Patsy (2008), Garth Brooks, Jim Foglesong and Allen Reynolds (2009), and Fred Foster, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson (2010).

“Leadership Music is excited to recognize CMA as the 2011 recipient of the Leadership Music Dale Franklin Award. As one of the foremost leaders in the music business, CMA has played an integral role in supporting many great artists as well as numerous businesses and organizations, including Leadership Music. We look forward to an extraordinarily special and intimate evening celebrating CMA's accomplishments and years of service to our industry and community,” said Jamie Cheek, president of the Leadership Music Board of Directors.

In choosing to honor CMA, the board of directors cited many attributes exemplified by CMA which meet and exceed the criteria for this award. Along with the annual CMA Awards and the CMA Festival promoting country music worldwide, other initiatives such as the “Keep the Music Playing” program, the Songwriter Series, and online educational series, have had a significant and dramatic impact on the lives of many. By donating all net proceeds – a record $2.9 million- from the 2010 CMA Music Festival to support music education and aid flood relief in Metro Nashville, CMA has taken leadership to a new level. In addition, CMA has championed the Leadership Music educational program, now in its 22nd year, boasting nearly 800 alumni who are indebted to CMA for this support.

"CMA is honored to receive this award from such a respected organization as Leadership Music," said Steve Moore, CMA Chief Executive Officer. "We are proud to serve the entire Country Music industry as its trade association, support music education in public schools, and be an active member of the Nashville community. It is especially exciting to receive this award during a year when we will celebrate milestones with our two best-known events: the 40th CMA Music Festival and the 45th CMA Awards. On behalf of our visionary Board of Directors and hardworking staff, I am proud to accept this award and thankful for the recognition."
