         Writers and aspiring writers – from songwriters to novelists – are invited to spend a weekend writing on Scarritt-Bennett’s campus. The goal of Room to Write is to provide participants with three days of uninterrupted writing time in the peaceful setting of Scarritt-Bennett’s beautiful, tree-lined campus. Daily activities with fellow writers and consulting opportunities with a professional book doctor will be available – but this is all optional. Participants can also just stay in their rooms and write, coming out just to share a meal and maybe a few moments of fresh air and friendly faces.

         Writers often have to carve out precious moments from hectic schedules in order to practice their craft. Twice each year,  Room to Write invites writers to get away for a long weekend of writing, writing, eating, a bit of conversation, and more writing.

    Room to Write is not a conference, but a time for uninterrupted creativity. Participants write in three-hour blocks, breaking only for meals and optional mind-stretching exercises (meditation or walking Scarritt Bennett's labyrinth and beautiful campus), then gather at the end of the weekend to share successes. Projects range from business plans to poetry and song lyrics to an upcoming episode of a hot television show.

    Room to Write welcomes writers at any stage in their writing careers. For those who would like feedback, the program provides optional editorial guidance from writing doctor, Charlotte Rains Dixon, and help with building an online presence and audience from media consultant, Janet Wallace of socialdeviants.com.
