Presented by Katie Delmez, curator, Frist Center for the Visual Arts with live music by Kindling Stone.  The Shakers were a communal religious organization that pursued the ideals of simplicity and perfection in every aspect of their lives. Gather Up the Fragments: The Andrews Shaker Collection exhibition includes more than two hundred objects—furniture, drawings, household objects, textiles, baskets, and kitchen implements—and is the most comprehensive collection of Shaker material ever assembled.

Join us for this two-part program in which Katie Delmez, curator at the Frist Center, will offer insights into this fascinating religion, the people behind it, and the objects included in the exhibition. Delmez’s presentation will be followed by members of the musical group Kindling Stone, who will explain the importance of music in Shaker worship services and also perform a selection of authentic and distinctive music written by the Shakers.
