The Battle of Franklin Trust is celebrating spring with a wide array of artistic and educational offerings, coming together under one event. “Authors & Artists, Artifacts & Accoutrements, A Celebration of Spring at Carnton” will be held on Saturday, March 26 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the Fleming Center at Carnton Plantation. The celebration will bring in acclaimed authors, landscape artists, exhibits, award-winning gardener Justin Stelter and site memorabilia.
Participants and activities for the March 26 event include the following:
Authors Ruth McAllister, Robert Hicks, David Logsdon, James R. Knight and Thomas Flagel will be signing books from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Their books will also be available for purchase.
Representatives from The Chestnut Group, a non-profit alliance of landscape artists dedicated to land conservation and preservation in Middle Tennessee, will be on hand to show a sampling of the artwork that will be available at a July art show at Carnton. If weather permits, artists will be on the grounds painting during the celebration.
Attendees can see the new exhibit, Remembering Our Bold Defenders, Civil War Veterans, which looks inside the life of the many Civil War soldiers who lived years beyond their service in the military. The exhibit examines the transition from soldier to civilian, the formation of veterans’ organizations, reunions and modern history through re-enactments.
Justin Stelter, the Battle or Franklin Trust award-winning master gardener, along with some volunteers will be available to talk about Carnton’s garden and they will also have a variety of seeds and day lily bulbs for sale.
There will be special pricing on retiring merchandise and an opportunity to purchase new museum store items.
Representatives from different Battle of Franklin Trust departments will be available to speak with guests about the organization, membership, group tours, school tours, upcoming events and wedding rentals.
Guests can purchase discounted Carnton Plantation and Carter House tickets. Adults and senior tickets will be $2 off regular admission at both sites.
