Blackbird's Basement Series "Street to Studio" and "Self Made"
March 27, 2011
Ever pushing the proverbial envelope, Blackbird's Basement Series brings you "Self Made: Unconventional Art by Unconventional Artists". Ten of Nashville's gallery and street contributors weave together sagas of the city through multiple mediums, including spray paint, oil paint, and found objects. With focuses that run the spectrum from moments of human interaction to chaos, energy, and destruction, their work explores the grit of urbanity interlaced with brief glimpses of beauty and humanity.
Street to Studio: the Works of Jared Freihoefer, featured in the Main Gallery, is a visual exploration of the secrets of the city through text, physical artifacts, and universal themes from love and loss to simple human gesture. Focusing on the experiences of the individual, Freihoefer’s images exhibit the character and depth of sociological composition, while maintaining the casual feel typical of street art.
