Ben Cameron is a folk singer based in Nashville, but he grew up in Toronto, Milan, London, and New England. He considered becoming something useful but then lost the use of one of his eyes and stuck with songwriting. Cameron’s songs are completely his own, reminiscent of a young Paul Simon, while his voice is intimate and inviting as it is agile and raw. His debut LP was produced by Jen Gunderman (The Jayhawks) and attracted the talent and contributions of Nashville luminaries James Haggerty (Josh Rouse), Audley Freed (Black Crowes), Fred Eltringham (Wallflowers, Dixie Chicks), and Pete Finney (Patty Loveless). Since the record’s release last spring, Cameron has been generating a palpable buzz in Nashville and beyond. He was chosen as one of ten up-and-coming songwriters to showcase at the 2010 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival in Lyons, CO, and he continues to share the stage with many established acts. While Cameron’s record is notably understated, his live show hits harder and pushes listeners to their feet. It’s a fete not to be missed.
